Students battle for spots in specialties

Attendance is up at community colleges, and health science fields are becoming particularly popular. As a result, it is becoming harder for new students trying to enroll in the programs.

Four years after high school, Allison Turner has seen many of her former classmates finish college. By next spring, the 22-year-old Nash County native hopes to join them, graduating with an associate’s degree from Pitt Community College.

The Kings Arms Apartments on Charles Boulevard are scheduled for demolition next week to make room for a new student housing complex.
