The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, repair and replace as necessary all steam delivery and condensate recovery systems serving the university’s buildings and to fabricate and install new systems as needed to service
these buildings. This includes condensate pumps and tanks, valves, strainers,
gauges, PRVs, pilots and steam and condensate piping located throughout
campus in basements, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, tunnels and rickwells.
This also includes locating, excavating, repairing and replacing as necessary direct burial steam and condensate lines. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and correcting any problems with the above listed equipment.
In addition this position helps maintain, repair and replace as needed all steam plant equipment including the plant’s large, complex steam boilers and auxiliary equipment and piping systems. He/she performs structural and pipe welding jobs on steam distribution and condensate piping, steam plant equipment and for other university departments as assigned. In addition, this position rotates emergency call back and must be qualified as a relief boiler operator. Work is performed independently under the supervision of a steam plant supervisor and is evaluated through effective and efficient equipment operation. Work performance is reviewed by inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with plans, specifications and departmental work orders. This position is assigned other employees on an as needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
