Crime: Police looking for tree vandal

Greenville police are asking for help in identifying a man who wrestled a small tree out of the ground next to the parking deck on Fourth Street in downtown Greenville on Sunday.

The incident occurred at 2:22 a.m. on Feb. 12. The man appears to be white, tall and thin, has a beard and has his brown hair in a hipster bun. A white female with blond hair stood by and watched. 

A passerby captured a video of the vandalism, and the department place the video on its Facebook page. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (252) 329-4300 and ask for Officer Peterson.


The police department released reports Thursday with the following details and allegations:

Break-ins, theft

1500 block Charles Boulevard, 5 p.m. Feb. 14-10:27 a.m. Feb. 15: vehicle broken into through unspecified means; leads exhausted.

200 block Adams Boulevard, 1-6 a.m. Feb. 15: cellphone charger and green camouflage Mossberg 12-gauge pump shotgun all valued at $520 stolen from vehicle; leads exhausted.


800 block Peed Drive, 8:40-8:51 p.m. Feb. 12: 21-year-old woman assaulted with deadly weapon; extent of injuries not reported; investigation ongoing.


The sheriff’s office released reports Thursday with the following details and allegations:

Break-in, theft

400 block Airport Road, 3:30 p.m. Dec. 8-3:30 p.m. Feb. 15: TSA ID card valued at $50 stolen.

1800 block Wrench Circle, 9 p.m. Feb. 14: bodily force used to enter residence; 26-year-old woman assaulted by boyfriend; no injuries reported; investigation ongoing.


1800 block Kinsaul-Willoughby Road, 2:32 a.m. Feb. 16: 36-year-old man assaulted by spouse; no injuries reported; 32-year-old woman also assaulted; extent of injuries not reported; investigation ongoing.
