Pitt County deputies arrested a man Thursday during a traffic stop who was wanted for two violent home invasions that included a rape and a shooting.

Steven Malcom Hunter, 24, of 675 Club Drive, Ayden, was arrested about 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Arlington Boulevard and Red Banks Road.

Hunter was armed at the time of his arrest and had a handgun in his waistband, according to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Hunter was wanted in connection with two home invasions in 2015. In both cases, Hunter and other suspects who have previously been arrested broke into homes and robbed the residents, the sheriff’s office reported.

One one case, a woman was raped, and in another case, a victim was shot in the arm.

The deputies charged Hunter with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serous injury, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, two counts of first-degree burglary and carrying a concealed weapon. 

He was being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.

The other suspects include 28-year-old Brandon Leon Taylor, 19-year-old Nathaniel Copeland Jr. and 27-year-old Dequan Martrail Boone.

Taylor of 2415 Myrtle St., Winterville, was arrested on Jan. 11, 2016, and charged with first-degree forcible rape, robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary, first-degree forcible sex offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree kidnapping, resisting a public officer, probation violation, out of county probation violation and second-degree trespassing. He is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $125,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Copeland Jr. of 3307 Dortches Court, was arrested on Jan. 12, 2016, and charged with first-degree forcible rape, robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary, first-degree forcible sex offense, first-degree kidnapping and simple affray. He is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1,004,000 bond.

Boone of 3307 Dortches Court, was arrested on Jan. 14, 2016, and charged with first-degree forcible rape, robbery with a dangerous weapon first-degree burglary, first-degree forcible sex offense and first-degree kidnapping. He is being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $3 million bond and he is scheduled to be in court on Monday.
