Investigators from sheriff’s offices in Pitt and Beaufort counties busted a meth lab early Wednesday and arrested two men on charges they were manufacturing methamphetamine.

A joint investigation led the sheriff’s deputies to 4013 Rhema St. in Highland Mobile Home Park off Portertown Road about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies located a lab at the address, the release said, and they arrested two men, one who lives at the residence and the other a Grimesland man.

Michael Hoy Wilson, 48, of 4013 Rhema St., and Gene Allen McGowan, 57, of 136 River Rat Lane, Grimesland, are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine. Wilson also is charged with maintaining a dwelling for drugs.

Both men were booked at the Pitt County Detention Center, Wilson under a $200,000 secured bond and McGowan under a $150,000 secured bond.

The State Bureau of Investigation Clandestine Lab Response Unit responded to the Rhema Street scene for the purpose of taking inventory of lab materials, due to its volatile nature, the release said.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.
