The Greenville Police Department is investigating an assault after a man who had been stabbed showed up at Vidant Medical Center about 2:45 a.m. Monday, the department reported.

Officers were called to the hospital for a report of a 44-year-old man who came to be treated for a stab wound. He reported he had been stabbed during a fight with an unknown person on Battle Street but did not give an exact location, police said.

The man waited two hours after he was stabbed to go to the hospital, police reported. His wound was listed as serious, but not life-threatening. Police officers went to Battle Street but could not locate the crimes scene.
