The State Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred Sunday.

When troopers responded just after 12:45 p.m. on Sunday to the scene of the wreck at Statonsburg and B’s Barbeque Road, they saw that there had been a head-on collision with two vehicles, and that one of them left the scene.

The vehicle that left was a gold van last seen traveling northwest on Cottondale Road toward N.C. 121. It was reported that a blue or green van was traveling with the gold van and assisted the driver of the van in leaving the scene, according to Lt. Kip Gaskins of the Pitt County Sheriff’s office.

A photo taken at a Speedway gas station near the scene of the hit and run is believed to show the gold van.

Anyone with information about the identity of the driver or the location of the van is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 252-758-777. CrimeStoppers pays rewards for information that helps solve crimes.
