A man was charged with driving while impaired after causing an afternoon wreck that sent the driver of the other car to the hospital on Thanksgiving Day, according to a weekly review of Pitt County court records.

Alexander Misael Cardona Chun, 27, of 2137 Black Road, Robersonville, was charged with driving while impaired at 4:04 p.m. on Nov. 23 by the State Highway Patrol.

Cardona Chun was driving a 2005 Nissan south on Flemming School Road when he stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Staton House Road, but then started forward into the intersection without yielding to a 2002 Honda that was traveling west on Staton House Road, according to court records.

The Honda hit the Nissan in the driver’s side, and Cardona Chun fled the scene, records indicate.

Cardona Chun was apprehended near the scene of the collision and had red glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol, and his blood alcohol level was 0.13, records show. He also was charged with hit and run and no operator’s license.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Vidant Medical Center with possible injuries.

Three others also were charged with driving while impaired according to court records and law enforcement reports available between Nov. 21 and Nov. 27, 2017. In those cases, court documents indicate:

Canady Merrick Bullock, 35, of 480 Dogwood Drive, Bridgeport, Conn., was stopped at 1:06 a.m. on Nov. 25 on West Fields Street, near Belcher Street in Farmville by the Farmville Police Department. He had red eyes, and his blood alcohol level was 0.11.

Austin Tayloe Parker, 22, of 902 McCotters Marina Road, Washington, was in a rollover wreck on N.C. 43 about 6 a.m. on Nov. 26, according to the highway patrol. He had a strong odor of alcohol, glassy eyes and said he had been drinking beer. He got kicked out of the hospital and was arrested for being intoxicated and disruptive. His blood alcohol level was 0.16. He also was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane control and speeding.

Details about the wreck were not available.

Gabriel Pastrol Lopez, 28, of 3236 Jolly Road, Winterville, was stopped about 11:41 p.m. on Nov. 26 after a Pitt County sheriff’s deputy saw that he appeared to be impaired. He had a strong odor of alcohol, red glassy eyes, swayed when standing, was unable to follow directions and couldn’t complete field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol level was 0.15.
