A man suffered evident injuries after he ran off the road and collided with a tree on Stokestown-St. Johns Road near Greenville on Christmas Day,according to a weekly review of crashes investigated in Pitt County by the State Highway Patrol.

Joshua Michael Johnson of Ayden was traveling east on Stokestown-St. Johns Road from N.C. 43 at 12:41 p.m. when he ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left before hitting a tree and coming to a rest near the woodline, the report showed. 

Johnson was estimated to have been traveling at 50 mph at the time of impact. The speed limit is 55 mph for that section of the road. 

He was transported to Vidant Medical Center by Eastern Pines EMS to be treated for evident injuries. 

Johnson’s vehicle, a 1998 Land Rover, incurred $7,000 in damages and was not drivable following the collision, according to the report.

Johnson was charged with exceeding a safe speed and driving left of center, the report showed. 

The wreck is among 12 the State Highway Patrol investigated recently in Pitt County, according to reports available between Dec. 25 and Monday. Wrecks involving deer and other animals are not included.
