Greenville police have identified a man who was struck and killed while crossing the road in the 700 block of Southwest Greenville Boulevard Wednesday night, the department reported on Thursday.

A preliminary investigation indicates Edward Milton Inners Jr., 68, of Franklinton was attempting to cross the road near the Greenville Grande theater when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota passenger car.

The car was driven by 18-year-old Emma Weis of Raleigh. Inners, who was in town working at a nearby carnival, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. and traffic safety investigators were sent to the scene to determine what happened, said Kristen Hunter, the department’s public information officer.

The eastbound lanes were closed while rescue workers responded and officers continued their investigation. Traffic was diverted to Mall drive.

The crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
