A woman charged with firing a pistol inside the AMC theater made her first court appearance on Monday, but police were still seeking another person in connection with the incident.

Shameka Latrice Lynch, 30, of 890 N.C. 30, Tarboro, is charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of discharging a firearm in an enclosure to incite fear. A judge set her bond at set at $250,000 and scheduled her next court date for March 14.

According to an arrest warrant, Lynch discharged a .32-caliber pistol in Theater No. 2 at the cinema complex on Fire Tower Road in Greenville. The theater was full of patrons waiting to see the movie “Black Panther.” The warrant identified Deandre Cox and Randy Jones as targets of the assault, which police said was the result of a dispute over assigned seating.

Lynch turned herself in to authorities late Saturday night and was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center, where she remained on Monday. Police said the shot was fired into the ceiling of the theater.

Earlier on Saturday Greenville Police Department Chief Mark Holtzman described the suspected shooter as a black male wearing a blue and white shirt and a blue and white hat. He said the man had purchased a ticket and was accompanied by a woman.

Police on Monday would not say if they still believe the man fired the weapon.

“The Greenville Police Department anticipates additional arrests in this case, and the suspect the chief initially described as being involved is still considered a person of interest in the shooting,” spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said.

The incident occurred just before midnight on Friday. Witnesses called from inside the theater to report gunfire, which prompted a panic inside the theater and an active-shooter response by several waves of officers.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident and anyone who was in Theater 2 and left the area before talking to officers to please contact the department at 252-329-4150
