TARBORO — Police made four arrests and removed $4,500 worth of heroin from the streets during a recent sweep of suspected drug activity, authorities announced.

Officers conducting street crime enforcement activities stopped a vehicle at Main and Baker streets May 8. A search of the vehicle and its occupants yielded a large amount of heroin, said Tarboro Police Chief Jesse Webb.

The investigation soon involved the Tar River Regional Drug Task Force and led to the seized of 450 bindles of heroin. A bindle of heroin typically sells for $10 on the street, meaning the overall haul seized during this particular sting has an estimated street value of $4,500.

“The police department would like to thank all the members of the Tar River Regional Drug Task Force, as well as the citizens of Tarboro for their efforts in helping fight this epidemic,” Webb said.

Of the four suspects charged with trafficking heroin in Tarboro and nearby Leggett, three were from Halifax County and one was from Princeville. All four suspects were placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.

■ Christopher Lamont Davis, 27, of Hobgood, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; possession of heroin; and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances. He received a $100,000 bond.

■ Quandre Levon Pittman, 24, of Princeville, was charged with charged with trafficking heroin; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; possession of heroin; and maintaining a vehicle for Controlled Substances. He received a $250,000 bond.

■ Sherard Tremayne Peterson, 30, of Enfield, was charged with trafficking heroin and conspiracy to traffic heroin. He received a $250,000 bond.

■ Terquell Fuquon Alston, 27, of Enfield, was charged with trafficking heroin and conspiracy to traffic heroin. He received a $250,000 bond.

Davis and Pittman were arrested during the traffic stop. A few hours after their arrests, authorities extended the investigation into the Leggett area where Peterson and Alston were arrested and an additional 150 bindles of heroin was seized along with enough unpackaged heroin for approximately 200 more bindles, Webb said.
