Former Walmart employee faces charges in lottery ticket theft

A former employee of a discount retailer has been charged in the theft of lottery tickets.

Former Walmart employee Cathy Marshell Jones, 47, was arrested on May 11 by Greenville Police after her managers alleged she had been stealing scratch-off lottery tickets and cashing them in since December.

Jones was charged with larceny by employee and for obtaining property by false pretense. The value of the tickets is $2,500.

■ 3300 block Midland Court, 4:45-5:11 p.m. May 14: rear door forced open by caregiver to gain entry to home, no items listed as stolen, investigation ongoing.

■ 1200 block West Fourth Street, noon May 13: Galaxy S5 smartphone valued at $140 stolen from home; case inactive.

■ 2400 block County Home Road, 8 a.m. April 13-8 a.m. May 13: 20 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition and .40 caliber Sturm, Ruger & Co. firearm valued at $450 stolen from home; investigation ongoing.

■ 3428 S. Memorial Drive, 5:35-5:40 p.m. May 12: Jump Zone trampoline valued at $159.99 stolen from Academy Sports Inc. and recovered; investigation ongoing.

■ 1601 S.E. Greenville Blvd., 12:55-4:43 a.m. May 12: 12-pack of Budweiser and a 24-case of Budweiser valued at $29.98 stolen from Speedway; investigation ongoing.

■ 3000 Stantonsburg Road., 5:20-5:33 a.m. May 12: 12-pack of Bud Light valued at $12.99 stolen from Speedway; case inactive; warrants obtained.

■ 3040 Evans St., 6:06 p.m. May 11: miscellaneous food items valued at $643.47 stolen from Harris Teeter and recovered; investigation ongoing.

■ 100 block Oakmont Drive, 9 p.m. May 10: iPhone 7 Plus valued at $400 stolen from man at gym; investigation ongoing.

■ 3000 block Kingston Circle, 11 p.m.-5 a.m. May 6: digital camera and Lenovo laptop valued at $700 stolen from home; investigation ongoing.

■ 500 block Ford Street, 6 p.m. May 10-7 a.m. May 11: small plant with pink flowers valued at $5 stolen from home; investigation ongoing.

■ 1500 block Charles Boulevard, 8-11 a.m. May 2: various electronics valued at $150 stolen from home; investigation ongoing.

Assaults

■ 3100 block Sherwin Drive, 8:30-8:39 a.m. May 14: 20-year-old woman assaulted at home by boyfriend; minor injuries reported; 19-year-old man arrested and charged with assault on a female.

■ 900 block Autumn Drive, 4-8 p.m. May 10: 29-year-old woman assaulted at home by family member; minor injuries reported; investigation ongoing.

Property Damage

■ 2900 block Sussex Street, 8 p.m. May 13-7:16 a.m. May 14: 2012 Lincoln Mark II valued at $8,000 damaged; case inactive.

■ 3100 block Briarcliff Drive, 11 p.m. May 12-1:30 a.m. May 13: ottoman, stand-up hair dryer and three lamps valued at $296 damaged by spouse; investigation ongoing.

■ 1000 block Trinity Drive, 1-3:30 a.m. May 12: 2017 Jeep Wrangler sustained $233.01 in damages by friend; investigation ongoing.

■ 600 block Glendale Drive, 2:15-2:35 p.m. May 12: grill and folding camping chair valued at $40 damaged by ex-boyfriend; 50-year-old man arrested and charged with communicating threats and violating domestic protective order.

■ 2900 block Sussex Street, 10 p.m. May 10-8:30 a.m. May 11: 2012 Lincoln Mark II sustained $1,200 in damages; investigation ongoing.

■ 1600 block Southwest Greenville Boulevard, 4:30-5:10 a.m. May 7: police vehicle, year unlisted, sustained $1,000 in damages; investigation ongoing.
