One person was left with suspected minor injuries after another driver failed to yield, causing a two-car crash on Reedy Branch Road on May 11, according to a weekly review of crashes investigated in Pitt County by the State Highway Patrol.

Myon Cha Tripp, of Winterville, was traveling east on Reedy Branch Road near Evans Street at 8:08 a.m. when she approached a stop sign at the intersection. She stopped and attempted to turn left on to Evans Street but failed to yield to a car traveling south, driven by Gloria Leggett Tetterton of Winterville.

Tetterton’s vehicle hit the back left quarter panel of Tripp’s vehicle in the intersection. Tripp’s vehicle ran off the road to the right and came to a rest on the shoulder of Evans Street. Tetterton’s vehicle ran off the road to the left and collided with a stop sign before coming to a rest on the shoulder of Reedy Branch Road.

Tripp was estimated to have been travelling at 20 mph at the time of impact while Tetterton was estimated to have been travelling at 50 mph, the report showed. The speed limit for that section of the road is 55 mph.

Tetterton was left with suspected minor injuries and was checked by Winterville EMS. She was not transported to a hospital, however. Neither Tripp nor Tetterton’s passenger were injured in the crash.

Tripp’s 2015 Chrysler incurred an esimtaed $7,000 in damages while Tripp’s 2016 Ford incurred an estimated $6,800 in damages, according to the report. The stop sign also incurred an estimated $300 in damages.

Tripp was charged with a failure to yield violation.

The wreck is among nine that the State Highway Patrol investigated recently in Pitt County, according to reports available between May 7 and Monday. Wrecks involving deer and other animals are not included.
