Officers arrested and charged Greenville Police Department cadets Christian Thomas Russell, 38, and Brittany Johanna Barnett, 28, for a fight involving multiple individuals on the side of the road in the 1600 block of Worthington Road.
Russell and Barnett, along with two others, were arrested at the scene and charged simple assault, resist delay/obstruct and for being Intoxicated and disruptive.
The fight happened outside the Greenville jurisdiction; therefore, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol are handling the investigation.
“I am deeply disappointed to learn of the arrests of two of our trainees,” said Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman. “This behavior is not indicative of the standards for which we hold our employees. The conduct allegedly displayed last night is an embarrassment to the entire law enforcement profession and will not be tolerated at the Greenville Police Department.
“We will cooperate fully with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated,” Holtzman said.
Russell and Barnett have been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
