WILSON — A Wilson teen faces five attempted murder charges after police said he was involved in a Sunday shooting that left two other teens injured.
Edgar F. Renteria, 17, is charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
Renteria, of 4220 Kent Road, is being held under a $1 million secured bond.
Police were dispatched to Wilson Medical Center shortly before 8:30 p.m. regarding several people who had been shot, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud. While responding to the hospital, police were told the shooting happened behind Target at Heritage Crossing, but they later discovered it took place behind Rack Room Shoes, which is also in the shopping center, police said.
Officers spoke to 19-year-old Javel T. Bowens and 16-year-old Shyreke Bullock who suffered from gunshot graze wounds, Stroud said.
After gathering information, investigating officers determined that a fight was planned between Renteria and a group of people Bowens and Bullock were with.
Renteria allegedly began shooting into the vehicle Bowens and Bullock were in before the brawl could take place, according to police.
Renteria was arrested at his home with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office’s assistance. Police also seized a handgun during the arrest, Stroud said.
Police ask anyone with information on the incident to call the Wilson Police Department at 399-2323 or CrimeStoppers at 243-2255.
