A 22 year-old man was charged with driving while impaired after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole, according to a weekly review of Pitt County court records.  

Edgar Andres Torres-Garcia, 22, of 3300 Indian Ridge Road, was driving his 1998 Honda on Arlington Boulevard when he lost control, ran off the road to the right and struck a utility pole near Hyde Drive and Wimbledon Drive at 4:26 a.m. on June 16. 

He told Greenville Police he did not remember driving and could not recall what happened before the crash.  According to the crash report, Torres-Garcia was traveling 45 mph at the time of impact. His vehicle sustained $5,000 in damages.

Torres-Garcia had red glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.18.

He was among five people charged with driving while impaired according to court records and law enforcement reports available between June 13 and June 20. In the other cases, court documents indicate:

■ Wardell Bostick, 60, of 4541 Brown Road, Ayden, was stopped at 6:27 p.m. on June 17 near South Lee Street and Allen Road by the Ayden Police Department. He had red glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.12. His license also was revoked.

■ Victor Manuel Garcia, 40, of 4549 Mobleys Bridge Road, Grimesland, was stopped at 9:05 p.m. on June 14 near Old Pactolus Road and Green Street by the State Highway Patrol. He had red glassy eyes, slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. He also had a container of alcohol in the vehicle and refused a field sobriety test. He also was charged with driving while license revoked and having an open container.

■ Sharon Annette Johnson, 40, of 1101 Van Dyke Street, was stopped at 1:35 a.m. on June 16 near N.C. 11 and N.C. 102 by the Ayden Police Department. She had red glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She was unsteady on her feet. She also was charged for driving while license was revoked and for having an expired tag.

■ Matthew John Sparrow, 38, of 125 Kelly Springs Road, Dudley, was stopped at 4:40 p.m. on June 18 near N.C. 102 and Ayden Golf Club Road by the by the State Highway Patrol. He was also charged with driving while license revoked His blood alcohol level was 0.28.
