A Grimesland-area man arrested on child sex charges made his first court appearance Tuesday morning at the Pitt County Detention Center.
The bond for Michael Wayne Moore, 34, remained at $400,000 and he asked the judge for a court-appointed attorney during the hearing. He is expected to appear in court again on July 25.
Pitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Moore, 34, about 3:30 p.m. Monday at his home after investigating a tip that he wanted to lure a child into the woods and sexually assault the child.
Moore was charged with one count of solicitation to commit first-degree statutory rape of a child under the age of 13 by an adult and one count of solicitation to commit first-degree statutory sex offense with a child.
On June 12, Moore sought the help of an acquaintance in finding a young girl to assault, Maj. Paula Dance said during a Monday news conference. The acquaintance, who officials would not identify, alerted deputies.
The informant told deputies Moore wanted to lure a child into the woods and sexually assault the child, Dance said. Moore did not have a specific girl in mind, she said.
