ELM CITY — A man faces multiple charges after authorities seized more than 10 pounds of marijuana, Ecstasy, cocaine and various prescription pills from his northern Wilson County home.

Detectives with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations/Narcotics Unit began an investigation after they received a complaint from a concerned resident about suspicious activity at a 6063 N.C. 58 N. home northwest of Elm City, according to officials.

On Tuesday, 39-year-old Douglas Maurice Gorham gave detectives consent to search the home, said Wanda Samuel, sheriff’s office chief of staff.

Detectives conducted the search and seized multiple drugs, including MDMA, which is also known as Ecstasy, cocaine, prescription narcotics, prescription opiates and more than 10 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $60,000, Samuel said.

Officials also found items “consistent with the sale and delivery of these substances as well as items consistent with illegal drug use,” Samuel said.

Gorham, who received an $85,000 secured bond, was arrested without incident. He is charged with the following:

• Possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana;

• Felony possession of marijuana;

• Possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver MDMA;

• Felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (oxycodone);

• Possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Felony possession of cocaine;

• Maintaining a dwelling for the sale and delivery of cocaine, marijuana, MDMA and prescription narcotics;

• Possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, trafficking opium/heroin (prescription narcotics);

• Possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance;

• Simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

Wilson County Sheriff Calvin Woodard said the office will continue to dismantle the operations of drug dealers in Wilson County.

“We will continue utilizing our investigative techniques, technology and personnel to ensure that our children and citizens are safe from the crime and grief that this illegal conduct exhibits in a community,” Woodard said.

“We have followed up on several complaints by citizens, and we will continue our fight that drugs have no place in Wilson County,” he said. “This type of business is not prosperous for the children, families and our communities. The goal of this office is the continuance of sending the cease, desist and/or arrest message.’”
