Law enforcement is continuing its investigation into the death of a 57-year-old Greenville man killed Thursday when he was hit by a dump truck in a residential neighborhood off of Frog Level Road

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office on Friday identified the man as Mark Davis, 2435 Dickinson Ave. Davis was part of a construction crew extending Tifgreen Drive to make way for more homes to be build, according to reports from the scene on Thursday.

The Greenville Police Department initially responded to the incident but later determined the incident did not occur in the city limits. It turned the investigation over to the sheriff’s office at that point.

The sheriff’s office on Friday said it would not release information about the driver of the dump truck or what caused mishap because the investigation is ongoing.
