Man left with disabling injuries after crashing into tree

A Fountain man was left with disabling injuries after he ran off the road and struck a tree.
The crash took place on Aug. 4 at U.S. 258 and Lynch Street near Fountain, according to a weekly review of crashes investigated by the State Highway Patrol.
Ricky Webb Walston of Fountain was driving south on U.S. 258 when he ran off the road to the right and collided with a tree. His 2003 Mazda came to rest near the area of impact.
Walston was traveling 45 mph at the time of the crash The speed limit for that section of road is 55 mph.
He was transported to Vidant Medical Center by Fountain EMS.
His 2003 Mazda sustained $3,000 in damages.
Walston was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving.
The wreck is among 15 other wrecks that the State Highway Patrol investigated recently in Pitt County, according to reports available between July 30 and Monday. Wrecks involving deer and other animals are not included.
