Two men were arrested after they led Greenville Police Department officers on a brief car chase that led to a crash and a drug charges, the department reported on Wednesday.

The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Saturday as officers were responding to a call of shots fired in the area of Douglas Avenue and 14th Street, department spokewoman Kristen Hunter said.

“The officers saw two men in the area and attempted to pull over their vehicle,” Hunter said.

The two men have been identified as 29-year-old Bobby Marcellus Harrington and 29-year-old Dominique Lamar Sheppard. Harrington was driving the car and Sheppard was a passenger.

Arrest warrants indicate that when the vehicle didn’t stop, a brief car chase ensued which resulting in property damage. One of the vehicle’s occupants ran before being apprehended. Both men were eventually taken into custody near Sheppard Memorial Library’s Carver branch on 14th Avenue.

Harrington was charged with reckless driving to endanger, hit and run and failure to stop and failure to burn headlamps. Sheppard was charged with resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana up to 1/2 ounce and fleeing as an accessory to property damage.

Both men were jailed in in the Pitt County Detention Center but have since been bonded out.

A home in the area where Harrington resides also sustained damage Saturday from gunfire to the front door, Hunter said.
