A second victim in a Greenville apartment shooting that took place last month is facing charges in connection to the crime, the Greenville Police Department reported on Wednesday.
Shaimir Jai White, 20, of Greenville is charged in the shooting of 21-year-old Malik Raquan Ward of Raleigh and 19-year-old Malicah Rahsheed Carter of Rolesville. The incident took place outside the Pecan Grove apartments in Greenville about 2 p.m. on Aug. 24. White also suffered gunshot wounds during the incident.
He has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm by felon. He is in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $300,000 bond.
According to police, Malik Ward was the first person to be charged in connection to the incident. He was released from Vidant Medical Center the evening of the shooting and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances.
Based on evidence recovered, the shooting appears to have stemmed from a drug deal and was not a random event, the department reported. The investigation is ongoing.
