A Rocky Mount man was gunned down in the middle of Park Avenue early Friday morning, authorities reported.

The homicide occurred at 6:17 a.m. in the 200 block of Park near Goldleaf Street and Pope Elementary School.

According to a statement from the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers responded at that time to a shot spotter activation call and arrived on the scene to find a man lying dead in the roadway.

The man has been identified as Allen Jerome Smith, 42, who, neighbors say, was commonly known as “Biscuit.” 

The Rocky Mount Homicide Unit remained at the scene investigating the homicide.
