ROCKY MOUNT — Authorities made a third arrest Saturday in connection with the double murder of the mayor of Leggett and his wife.
Dakeithia Nesha Andrews, 31, of Parrish Court in Rocky Mount, was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Andrews is being held under a $100,000 secured bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
Andrews is scheduled to have a first court appearance Wednesday in N.C. District Court in Tarboro. Andrews, along with two other men, have been charged in relation to the slayings of Mayor Gary Skelton and his wife, Jackie Dawn Skelton, who were found shot to death Thursday at their Leggett home.
Deputies charged Keith Earl Williams, 25, of Daniel Street in Tarboro on Thursday with first-degree murder, and he is being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center. Authorities on Friday made another arrest and charged Mitchell Brinson, 18, also with first-degree murder in connection with the double homicide.
E.W. Muse Jr., a detective lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division of the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, said he doesn’t anticipate any more arrests in the case.
Edgecombe County Sheriff Clee Atkinson said in a news release that the investigation has revealed this to be an isolated incident and that there is no further danger to the public from the suspects.
Detectives are still actively working the case and continue to ask for the public’s assistance. Anyone with information relevant to this investigation should call 641-7911 or email Muse at firstname.lastname@example.org.
