A Greenville man was charged with driving while impaired after he ran off the road to the left, struck a vehicle, collided with a tree before coming to rest near N.C. 903 in Stokes,  according to a weekly review of Pitt County court records.

Ted Joel Savage, 66, 198 E. Main St., of Everettes, was traveling north on N.C. 903 from Worthington-Warren road in his 2013 Hyundai when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 2012 Dodge being driven by Damien Demery of Aulander, forcing his car into the ditch.

Demery and Savage both were going 55 mph when their vehicles collided  Savage left the scene and continued driving into the city of Stokes before crossing the centerline again and was going 30 mph when he drove through the front yard of Stokes Elementary School and collided with a tree. 

The first crash happened at 7:28 a.m. on Oct. 6. Savage’s vehicle sustained $10,000 and Demery’s vehicle sustained $ $3,500 in damages.

Neither of the drivers required medical attention or transport. 

Savage was charged with driving while impaired, going left of center and hit and run. He also was charged with driving without headlights. He had red, glassy eyes and he was given a blood test. His blood alcohol level was unavailable. 

Savage was among fourteen people charged with driving while impaired according to court records and law enforcement reports available between Sept. 30 and Oct.7. In the other cases, court documents indicate:

■ David Wayne Anderson, 38, of 2208 Charles Blvd. was stopped at 9:10 a.m. on Oct.5 near N.C. 43 and Bells Fork Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.14. He also was involved in a hit and run and took off on foot before being apprehended. He admitted to drinking, not wearing a seatbelt and driving with a revoked license.   

■ Rachel Kathryn Gullette-Burke, 31, of 2826 Cresset Drive, Winterville, was stopped at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, near Old Tar Road and Cooper Street by the Winterville Police Department. She had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. Her blood alcohol level was 0.20.

■ Ruby Jean Dail,47, of 1254 West Pointe Drive was stopped at 1 a.m. on Oct. 5, near N.C. 11 and U.S. 264 by the State Highway Patrol. She had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on her breath and was unsteady on her feet. Her blood alcohol level was 0.17. 

■ Odell Junior Edwards,59, of 1749 Gum Swamp Church Road was stopped at 4:45 p.m.on Oct. 1, near N.C. 903 and Staton Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had glassy eyes, a drowsy look, difficulty standing and had to lean on his car and admitted to taking an Ambien.  He also was charged with failure to maintain lane control His blood alcohol level was unavailable. 

■ Marty Scot Fulford, 54, of 4208 Grimmersburg St., Farmville, was stopped at 10:47 a.m. on Sept. 30, near U.S. 264 and N.C. 121 by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. He refused a breathalyzer test.  

■ William Eric Gray, 33, of 2560 Westminster Drive, Winterville, was stopped at 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 2, near Greenville Boulevard and Landmark Street by the Greenville Police Department. He was unable to maintain lane control or control his speed, had red, glassy eyes and had an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.25.

■ Nathaniel Lavaughan Hardy, 24, of 211 Caddie Court was stopped at 11:32 p.m. on Oct. 3, near N.C. 33 and Alvin Road by the State Highway Patrol. He passed out driving down the road and his vehicle rolled into the ditch. He had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.  His blood alcohol level was 0.12.

■ Arturo Angel Martinez, 27,of 1932 County Home Road, Ayden, was stopped at 3:50 a.m. on Oct. 7, near Pactolus Hwy and Martin Luther King Jr. Hwy by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and refused a breathalyzer.

■ Sixto Salinas Martinez,28, of 739 Harvy Road, was stopped at 7:28 p.m. on Oct. 5, near Staton House Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and had a flushed looking face. He drove into the oncoming traffic lane. He also was charged for driving without a license. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.

■ Marquese Kwaison Perkins, 22, of 507 Jonathan Place, was stopped at 5:35 a.m. on Oct. 6, near Sterling Point Drive and Thomas Langston Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes an odor of alcohol on his breath and was involved in a wreck. His blood alcohol level was 0.11.

■ Sabrina Renee Pollard,38, 508 Brighton Park Drive, was stopped at 12:40 a.m. on Oct.7 near N.C. 43 and N.C. 102 by the State Highway Patrol. She also was charged with failure to maintain lane control. She had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on her breath. Her blood alcohol level was 0.17.

■ Reggie Devonte Teel, 26, 1218 Benjamin Drive, was stopped at 11:53 p.m. on Sept. 30 near Frog Level Road and Davenport Farm Road by the State Highway Patrol. He also was charged with driving without a license and failure to maintain lane control. He had red, glassy eyes, pinpoint pupils, was unsteady on his feet, was drowsy and had slurred speech, an odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was unavailable. 

■ Tyler Willis Wier, 33, of 5658 Edith Road, was stopped at 2:10 a.m. on Oct. 2, near North Highland Boulevard by the Grifton Police Department. He had red, glassy eyes an odor of alcohol on his breath and was involved in a wreck. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
