Early morning shooting leaves one man injured

Shots rang out early Sunday morning at a local covenience store after a group of individuals were involved in an altercation, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Greenville police responded to a shots fired call shortly before 1:30 a.m., but upon arrival at the Sheetz store located at 2521 N. Memorial Drive, officers discovered those involved had left the area.
A short time later, police located 18-year-old Davone Smith of Greenville on Moore Street, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Smith and his associates fled to Moore Street following the shooting, a department news release said. Smith was transported to Vidant Medical Center and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.
A preliminary investigation has revealed Smith and three of his friends were involved in an altercation with another group of individuals. At some point during the altercation, shots were fired and Smith was struck, the release said.
Detectives believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. They are currently reviewing surveillance cameras in the area. The case remains under investigation.
