ROCKY MOUNT — A man was shot several times in a tax office in downtown Rocky Mount and police believe there may be more than one suspect.
The incident occurred about 8:40 a.m. Saturday after a man entered a tax service business in the 100 block of Western Avenue, said Sgt. Brad Summerlin, public information officer of the Rocky Mount Police Department. A 28-year-old man inside was shot several times.
Summerlin said the suspect fled from the scene, and the wounded man ran to the police station to get help. Summerlin said the victim was first taken to Nash UNC Health Care and later transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment of his injuries.
“Right now, I’m unsure of his condition or the extent of the victim’s injuries,” Summerlin said.
Summerlin added the incident appears to involve more than one suspect and the Rocky Mount Criminal Investigations Division is following up on leads and talking to witnesses who may have information about the incident. He said investigators plan to talk to the victim soon.
