Woman suspected of stealing mail, forging checks

Deputies from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged an Ayden woman Tuesday after they said she stole checks and other items out of mailboxes between Nov. 23 and Dec. 3.
Hollie Lynn Chaimowitz, 44, of 4205 Colonial St., was arrested on multiple counts of larceny of chose in action for checks, forgery, uttering and identity theft. A release stated that at the time of her arrest, Chaimowitz had mail and personal checks and identification cards that did not belong to her in her possession.
The mail stolen was mostly personal checks, which the woman then forged and tried to cash at financial institutions around Greenville, the release said.
She is currently in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $125,000 bond. The case remains under investigation at this time and more charges are expected.
