Man arrested in shooting

A Greenville man has been arrested on charges his discharged a weapon and damaged two cars and an apartment building on Allen Road, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired 919 Allen Road about 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Witnesses said a man in a vehicle opened fire at another car in a parking lot.
Police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said the alleged shooter and his victim were not on scene but were located a short time later at an apartment complex across the street.
Daekel Julian Simpson, 31, of 303 Paris Ave., was found to be in possession of a stolen Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun at the time of his arrest.
Warrants for Simpson indicate that the back glass and front passenger window of a 2001 Mercedes S500 and the front passenger window of a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer sustained damages in excess of $200 in the shooting.
Simpson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by felon and two counts injury to property.
He was jailed in the Pitt County Detention Center. Bond information was not available.
