Two people died of gunshot wounds after a shooting inside a residence in the Kearny Park housing complex on Friday afternoon, the Greenville Police Department reported.

The incident occurred inside of 1808-B Kennedy Circle, Lt. Carlton Williams said. Officers were called to a report of shots fired at 4:37 p.m.

Upon arrival, they found one person dead and a second wounded, Williams said. Emergency medical workers transported that person to Vidant Medical Center but the person died shortly after arrival.

Investigators are following up on a couple of different leads but the department was not prepared on Friday afternoon to say if the two people shot each other or if another person was involved.

Williams said the names and ages of the deceased would be released after their families were notified. More information will be provided when it is available.

Kearny Park is located off of Howell Street near South Greenville Elementary School and the South Greenville Gym. The property backs up to J.H. Rose High School.
