Pitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man following an investigation that tied him to several recent break-ins, including an attempt at the Hustle Mart in Farmville.

According to a news release issued Sunday morning, deputies arrested Hiakeem J’Von Powell of 6383 Stantonsburg Road with assistance from the Greenville Police Department.

The arrest came after deputies responded to a suspicious activity call near Stantonsburg Road, which turned out to be a possible breaking and entering of a residence.

An investigation into the incident led deputies executed a search warrant at Powell’s home.

Items seized during the search tied Powell to multiple cases, including the theft of a firearm. The firearm was used on Dec. 21, to shoot into the Hustle Mart convenience store during an attempted break-in.

Powell is charged with one count of breaking and entering a building, three counts of attempted breaking and entering a building, one count of larceny after breaking and entering, one count of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, one count of possession of or receiving stolen property, one count of larceny of a firearm, and one count of possession of a controlled substance at a prison or jail.

Further details about the incidents were not provided. Powell was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center under a $90,000 bond.
