Two men have been jailed on four counts of attempted first-degree murder and other charges after shots were fired in a Belvoir-area residence and suspects led deputies on a chase, according to warrants and a news release.

Pitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to 954 Katherine’s Place off of Barrus Construction Road shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, the warrants said. Residents told a responding deputy that a man had broken into their home and began firing a handgun.

No one was injured in the incident, and the gunman fled the scene along with another man. The sheriff’s office reported a second deputy observed the suspect vehicle on N.C. 33 at Old River Road traveling toward Greenville. He activated his blue lights and siren.

The vehicle continued at a low rate of speed making turns onto different side roads. On Memorial Drive the driver increased speed and drove through multiple stop lights, a news release said. The chase continued until the vehicle wrecked in a yard on Kristin Drive in Greenville.

Two men jumped from the vehicle and ran, the release said. A struggle ensued between a deputy and the suspects, and the deputy utilized a TASER. Both men were then arrested and a loaded handgun was seized.

The men were identified as Jamie Isaiah Howard, 37, of 1202 Saguaro Road and Jemere Junior Harrell, 36, of 600 Verdant Drive.

Howard is charged with four counts of attempted first degree-murder, resisting a public officer, assault/physically injure a law enforcement officer, discharging a weapon into an occupied property and first-degree burglary. He also is charged with two probation violations. His was jailed at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $2.5 million bond.

Harrell is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, resisting a public officer, discharging a weapon into an occupied property, first-degree burglary, reckless driving, fleeing to elude arrest with motor vehicle, and two counts of failing to stop for a red light. His bond is set at more than $3.2 million.
