Police warn about red-light ticket scam

The Daily Reflector

Friday, May 24, 2019

The Greenville Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving fake red light camera citations. The department on its Facebook page announced that two people reported they received an emailed red light citation notice.

The email does not specifically mention the Greenville Police Department or the City of Greenville, nor does it appear to be targeted specifically to this area. However, the department wanted to remind residents it does not email red light citations.

“We have no way of even knowing your email address,” the post said.

All legitimate red light citations will be sent via regular mail and will include our official logo. When in doubt, never hesitate to call the department and never click on a link from an unknown source, the post said.
