Man arrested after police chase

A Greenville man is behind bars on charges he tried to run over police officers before leading them on a chase on Saturday night, authorities said.

Greenville Police Department officers attempted to stop 29-year-old Larry Wendell Atkinson of 1410 Barrier Lane about 6 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Dickinson Avenue and Allen Road, the department reported.

The traffic stop was for displaying expired tags, according to arrest warrants. Atkinson led officers on a chase, and at some point he attempted to run an officer over, a warrant said.

Once he was stopped, officers located 22 grams of marijuana in his 2003 Lincoln Town Car.

Atkinson is charged with: possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II substance from a personal vehicle.

He was jailed in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $125,000 bond.

1400 block Hidden Acres Drive, near Grimesland, 1:10-1:11 a.m. June 6: 77-year-old woman assaulted at home by child; minor injuries reported; arrest made.

4700 block Hannia Court, near Grimesland, 2:20-2:25 p.m. June 9: 41-year-old woman assaulted at home by ex-spouse; minor injuries reported; case active.

4700 block Hannia Court, near Grimesland, 11:14 a.m. June 9: 32-year-old woman assaulted at home by boyfriend; no injuries reported; case cleared: victim refused to cooperate.

3300 block Beaver Lodge Drive, 10:21 p.m. June 7: 33-year-old woman assaulted at home by known person; minor injuries reported; case active.

2600 block Cobb Dail Road, near Farmville, 8:01-8:17 p.m. June 6: 36-year-old woman assaulted at home by spouse; no injuries reported; case unfounded.

4700 block Maria Court, near Grimesland, 2:30-2:41 p.m. June 6: juvenile assaulted at home with a firearm; major injuries reported; case active.

Property Damage

1000 block South Grimesland Bridge Road, near Grimesland, 7:23 p.m. June 5: door frame of home sustained $50 in damages; case active.

2200 block Chinquapin Road, near Farmville, 3 p.m. June 5-11 a.m. June 7: Chevy Tahoe outside of home sustained $800 in damages from a blunt object; case active.
