Woman charged with DWI strikes tree

A Greenville woman charged with driving while impaired crashed into a tree, according to Pitt County court records.

The single-car crash occurred at 1:24 a.m. on Sept. 15.

Cheriva McCoy Turnage,29, of 2045 Turnage Lane, was driving East in her 2016 Nissan passenger car on Cobb Dail Road when she crossed the centerline, ran off the road to the left and struck a tree before her vehicle came to rest.

At the time of the crash, she was attempting to round a curb and her speed at impact was 40 mph.

She was not injured in the crash but her vehicle sustained $2,500 in estimated damages.

Turnage is charged with driving while impaired and failure to maintain lane control.

She had an odor of alcohol on her breath and red, glassy eyes.

Her blood alcohol level was not available.

Seven other people also were charged with driving while impaired, according to court records and law enforcement reports available between and Sept.8 and Sept.15.

In other cases, court documents indicate:

  • Deborah Crawford Cleaton,64, of 644 Stillwater Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 6:15 a.m. on Sept. 15 near Wimbledon Drive and Holden Drive by the Greenville Police Department. She had red, glassy eyes. Her blood alcohol level was 0.16.
  • Michael Gilbert Krawchuk,53, of 6083 Marvin Taylor Road, Grifton, was stopped at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 14 near Queen Street and Highland Boulevard by the Grifton Police Department. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech, had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.09.
  • Albino Romero Luna,52, of 3084 Sunny Side Road, Greenville, was stopped at 11:03 p.m. on Sept. 10 near Old Pactolus Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes, was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.13.
  • Johnny Ray Moore,32, of 2810 Penny Lane, Greenville, was stopped on Sept. 13 by the State Highway Patrol. The location and time of the stop was not available. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred. He also told the trooper that he had just come from a bar. His blood alcohol level was 0.13.
  • Jeffrey Todd Oakley,56, of 9371 Acre View Road, Fountain, was stopped at 6:07 p.m. on Sept. 10. near N.C. 222 by the State Highway Patrol. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and admitted to drinking. He also was displaying fictitious tags.
  • Elizabeth Garrett Scott,36, of 207 Manhattan Ave. Greenville, was stopped sometime after 6 a.m. on Sept. 9 near N.C. 33 by the State Highway Patrol. She failed to stop for blue lights and had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She also told the trooper she was drunk. Her blood alcohol level was 0.19.
  • Joshua Morgan Burgess-Sniegowski,23, of 2600 S. Wright Road, Greenville, was stopped at 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 11 near East Wright Road and West Wright Road by the Greenville Police Department. His blood alcohol level was 0.14.
  • Christopher Dewayne Vines,26, of 201 Rouse Road, Ayden, was stopped at 11:50 p.m. on Sept. 11 near Snow Hill Road by the Ayden Police Department. He had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.11.
