The East Carolina football team got a big shot in the arm on Saturday when the Pirates got a nod from Minnesota graduate transfer defensive lineman Gaelin Elmore.
The 6-foot-6 end gave his commitment to second-year head coach Scottie Montgomery over numerous other suitors, Arizona among them.
Elmore could be a much-needed, short-term addition for a defensive front seven that switched from a three- to a four-man front this offseason.
As a junior with the Golden Gophers before opting to leave the team during spring practice, Elmore had 14 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Later on Saturday, former Clemson running back Tyshon Dye reportedly also decided he will play at East Carolina. Dye, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 220 pounds, played 53 snaps for the national champion Tigers in 2016, finishing with 109 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.
