East Carolina baseball got to come home early this weekend with a clean sweep of Charlotte in the rearview mirror.

The Pirates took both games in Saturday’s twinbill, a hectic 6-5 triumph in the opener and a 12-2 rout in the series finale. The doubleheader was scheduled to avoid today’s expected inclement weather.

No. 19 ECU (10-3) broke a scoreless tie with a four-run seventh inning in the opener before being forced to sweat out the one-run win in the final inning when the 49ers matched ECU’s pair of runs in the ninth with three of their own.

Chris Holba recorded the win to run his record to a perfect 4-0 this season, while Alec Burleson nailed down his third save in dramatic fashion.

Turner Brown was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Pirates at the plate, while Jake Washer doubled as part of his 2-for-4 day and Dusty Baker added a pair of hits.

In the second game. the Pirates poured it on early and often, scoring three times in the second inning, five times in the fourth and twice more in the fifth to take a suffocating 10-0 lead for starter Tyler Smith, who went six innings and scattered three hits for an easy win.

Washer, Spencer Brickhouse and pinch hitter Seth Caddell all went deep for ECU, while Burleson doubled and drove in four runs as part of his 3-for-6 outing.
