Minshew makes decision; Jones arrested

Gard­ner Min­shew is headed to Wash­ing­ton State and hop­ing to land as the Cougars’ start­ing quar­ter­back in his fi­nal col­le­giate sea­son.

Min­shew, a part-time starter for East Carolina each of the last two sea­sons, an­nounced on Twit­ter on Tues­day night that he is join­ing the Cougars and coach Mike Leach this year.

The former junior-college QB grad­u­ated from ECU in De­cem­ber and left the Pi­rates in Jan­uary, cit­ing fam­ily rea­sons at home in Mis­sis­sippi, and soon af­ter was linked to the na­tional cham­pion Alabama Crim­son Tide. But Min­shew is bound for Wash­ing­ton State, telling Sports Illus­trated’s Bruce Feld­man on Tues­day that, “This is an op­por­tu­nity to com­pete for a (start­ing) job on a very good team.”

Sopho­more Reid Her­ring has been work­ing as the No. 1 QB for the Pi­rates this spring ahead of fresh­men Holton Ah­lers and Kings­ley Ifedi.

TMZ: Zay Jones arrested

Website TMZ reported Tuesday night that former East Carolina star and NCAA FBS single-season and all-time receptions leader Zay Jones was arrested for felony vandalism, stemming from a Monday night incident captured on video in a Los Angeles apartment building.

Jones had a record-setting career at ECU from 2013-16 and then was drafted with the No. 5 pick in the second round by the Buffalo Bills in 2017.
