Gardner Minshew is headed to Washington State and hoping to land as the Cougars’ starting quarterback in his final collegiate season.
Minshew, a part-time starter for East Carolina each of the last two seasons, announced on Twitter on Tuesday night that he is joining the Cougars and coach Mike Leach this year.
The former junior-college QB graduated from ECU in December and left the Pirates in January, citing family reasons at home in Mississippi, and soon after was linked to the national champion Alabama Crimson Tide. But Minshew is bound for Washington State, telling Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman on Tuesday that, “This is an opportunity to compete for a (starting) job on a very good team.”
Sophomore Reid Herring has been working as the No. 1 QB for the Pirates this spring ahead of freshmen Holton Ahlers and Kingsley Ifedi.
TMZ: Zay Jones arrested
Website TMZ reported Tuesday night that former East Carolina star and NCAA FBS single-season and all-time receptions leader Zay Jones was arrested for felony vandalism, stemming from a Monday night incident captured on video in a Los Angeles apartment building.
Jones had a record-setting career at ECU from 2013-16 and then was drafted with the No. 5 pick in the second round by the Buffalo Bills in 2017.
