The United States team completed a dominant run at the FIBA Americas U18 basketball tournament in Ontario, Canada, on Saturday night with a 113-74 victory against the host Canadian squad to take the gold medal.

East Carolina first-year coach Joe Dooley helped pick the team, which was led by Kansas’ Bill Self. Dooley, a former Kansas assistant for 10 years, was a court coach during the USA team’s training camp held May 31-June 2 in Colorado.

“It’s great to see the hard work these guys put in turn into success,” Dooley said in a statement. “I’m very proud that I had the opportunity to coach them. Congratulations to all the coaches, players and everyone involved with USA Basketball.”

The USA now owns a 59-2 all-time record in the event. It used a 32-point second quarter on Saturday night to take control of the game and gain a 61-33 halftime lead.

“I thought we played great the first half, and then kind of pieced together the second half,” Self said after the win, according to the USA Basketball official website. “Guys played great. They played unselfish, they played hard and defended.”
