East Carolina track and field director Curt Kraft, along with cross country head coach Josey Weaver, will officially welcome 22 newcomers to campus this fall to attend East Carolina and compete for the Pirates.
The group features seven men and 15 women, including transfers from four different NCAA Division I schools. Raleigh native Alex Boseman is a male distance runner who comes as a graduate transfer from UNC Wilmington.
There also is a heavy prep in-state presence, which includes J.H. Rose graduate and distance runner Ammahtullah Abdel-Rahman.
“She has witnessed what Pirate Nation is all about and we could not be more excited to have her,” Kraft said.
Anna Bristle, from Monroe High, won the North Carolina outdoor 2-A state championship in the 3,200 race and has a personal-best time in the event of 10 minutes, 52.18 seconds. Abby Sweeney (Distance/Owings, Md.) was a state champion in the 3,200 in outdoor and indoor this year.
“This group of athletes will have a major impact on our programs for years to come,” Kraft said. “Not only are they great athletes, but even more important they are great students.”
