East Carolina pitcher Jake Agnos sat down Japan batters at a rapid rate Friday night to help the USA Collegiate National Team take a series lead over Japan.
Agnos was the first USA reliever in the game played in front of 4,211 fans at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Ga., and he struck out a game-high six batters in 3 1/3 innings. He had no walks and yielded one run in USA’s 3-1 victory.
On July 4, it was ECU outfielder Bryant Packard who started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 in a 1-0 win at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The series continues Sunday in Macon, Ga., and the USA squad, which features Agnos, Packard and Pirate coach Cliff Godwin, travels to Cuba to begin their series Tuesday.
