The Cuba team put together an abundance on runs Saturday for a 15-4 victory over the visiting USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, but USA still finished its summer with a 12-3 record and won all three of its international series.
The Americans featured East Carolina head coach Cliff Godwin as their hitting coach. ECU rising juniors Bryant Packard (outfielder) and Jake Agnos (pitcher) were on the roster and played regularly, including Packard often serving as the leadoff hitter in the batting order.
Team USA clinched the series in Havana, Cuba, on Friday with a 2-0 victory after Agnos was stellar in relief in a 3-0 win in Game 2 of the four-game set.
USA Baseball’s college club has won seven straight series, dating back to 2016.
“We have such a great group of kids and I have all my best friends surrounding me on the coaching staff,” manager and LSU head coach Paul Mainieri told usabaseball.com after Friday’s win.
The Americans swept all five of their games against Chinese Taipei and went 3-2 against Japan during the July 4 holiday week before traveling to Cuba.
