A home-heavy and critical portion of the East Carolina women’s basketball team’s schedule begins tonight when it hosts Wichita State at 7 in Minges Coliseum.

The Pirates (9-5, 0-1 American Athletic Conference) are on a three-game losing streak heading into the matchup against the Shockers, who ECU defeated last season by a 77-67 score in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Like ECU, Wichita (7-7, 0-1) also is looking for a spark as it is 1-3 in its last four outings. It got 18 points from freshman Jaida Hampton in its AAC opener, but lost 63-49 at Tulsa on Friday.

Three of ECU’s next four games will be at home.

The Pirates are coming off a 68-57 loss at Tulane on Saturday in which point guard Lashonda Monk returned from a one-game absence and filled her stat line with 11 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals with one turnover. The Pirates struggled in rebounding and shooting, finishing with a 30.4 field goal percentage.

Raven Johnson, who scored 12 points with four turnovers versus Tulane, remains as East Carolina’s scoring leader for the season at 13.6 points per game.
