East Carolina is one of the basketball teams playing on Super Bowl Sunday, when the Pirates tip off at Connecticut at 2 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on ESPNews.
ECU, which beat Tulane 66-65 in Greenville on Thursday night, is looking to record consecutive American Athletic Conference wins for the first time this season.
The Pirates (9-11, 2-6) are 2-9 all-time against the Huskies (12-9, 3-5) and 1-6 since joining the American. Each of the last three meetings in the series has been decided by five points or less, including ECU’s 66-62 win in Greenville in 2017 and UConn’s 84-80 victory at East Carolina a year ago.
ECU had four double-digit scorers versus Tulane, including Jayden Gardner (15 points, nine rebounds) thanks to a steady second half. K.J. Davis scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from the 3-point arc.
UConn is coming off a 73-67 loss at UCF in which it trailed 34-22 at halftime. Senior guard Jalen Adams had 22 points in the second half to total 27 for the game.
