Dorthea Forbrigd shot a career-low 54-hole score of 209 (7-under-par) to claim a share of first place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic this week.
It marked the third time in the career for Forbrigd, a junior, that she finished tied for first in a collegiate event. The Oslo, Norway, native led the entire field in total birdies (14) and par-4 scoring (-3), and her 67 on Day 1 of the event tied her career-low round.
The Pirates (40-39) finished fifth for their third top-five of the season, besting six top-50 programs including No. 21 TCU and No. 29 Purdue.
“I’m extremely proud of the way Dorthea played this week,” ECU coach Kevin Williams said in a release. “I’m equally as proud of the team with their fight and competitiveness. ... So far it has been a good start to the spring season for the Pirates.”
Swimming honor
East Carolina’s Marek Osina was named American Athletic Conference male swimmer of the week during the final regular season AAC weekly awards. He set the ECU freshman record in the 200 butterfly, registering the third-fastest time in school history (1 minute, 47.19 seconds) that also ranks third in the American this season.
Osina and ECU will now focus their full attention to the AAC championships, set for Feb. 27-March 2 in Indianapolis.
