East Carolina bas­ket­ball’s Jay­den Gard­ner col­lected his fifth Amer­i­can Ath­letic Con­fer­ence fresh­man of the week honor Mon­day af­ter post­ing his ninth dou­ble-dou­ble of the sea­son Sun­day against Tulsa with 19 points and 16 re­bounds in an over­time loss.

He is the first Pi­rate to win this award five times. B.J. Tyson and Shawn Wil­liams won the award four times each. Gard­ner joins Mem­phis’ Dedric Law­son (2015-16) and USF’s Chris Perry (2013-14) as the only play­ers in league his­tory to win it five times.

Law­son was awarded the rookie honor a league-record six times in 2015-16.
