East Carolina baseball’s five-game homestand continues today when it hosts Elon, and the Pirates are looking for a win to stop their recent slide.

ECU (5-3), which is No. 11 in the Baseball America Top 25 and ranked 14th by D1baseball.com this week, is 2-3 since beginning with an opening weekend sweep over Radford. Gavin Williams is slated to be the starting pitcher against the Phoenix (5-2), which is coming off a two-game split versus Wake Forest and it lost 5-0 to N.C. State last week.

“No, we haven’t played well the last few days, but we’ll get better,” ECU coach Cliff Godwin said of losing Sunday to Monmouth and then Monday to Air Force.

The Pirates swept Elon last season, winning 2-1 in Greenville and 3-0 at Elon in midweek action.

ECU fell 3-2 to Air Force on Monday, finishing with three hits and two of them were singles by Alec Burleson. All-American outfielder Bryant Packard returned to the lineup, finishing 0-for-3 with a walk, and Burleson will take a team-high .567 batting average and nine RBIs into today’s matchup.

First pitch at Clark-LeClair Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
