After another undefeated weekend, East Carolina women’s lacrosse picked up two American Athletic Conference weekly awards.
The Pirates (4-1) had goalie Christina White earn the American’s defensive player of the week honor for the second time this season. Also, Camryn Pennypacker was named midfielder of the week for the first time. The pair helped ECU go 2-0 on the road, beating George Washington 10-9 followed by topping Delaware State 16-2.
ECU is back in action Sunday with a home match versus Saint Francis.
White, who ranks first in the conference in saves per game, finished the weekend with 10 saves. None was bigger than her last in the George Washington win on a free position attempt with 1:03 remaining to preserve the 10-9 lead.
“Christina has been a rock between the pipes for us this season and this past weekend was no different,” Pirate coach Amanda Barnes Moore said in a release. “She, along with our defensive unit, gave us the stops we needed to mount a comeback win and hold on to it.”
Pennypacker, a freshman from Mullica, N.J., has made an instant impact and she had four points against George Washington, including scoring the game-winning goal.
Also this week in the AAC, East Carolina baseball swept the league weekly awards for the first time. Jake Agnos was named pitcher of the week, following his 11 strikeouts in a win against Monmouth last Saturday, and steady two-way standout Alec Burleson earned player of the week.
