Three-time American Athletic Conference butterfly champion Gustavo Santos has been invited to compete at the NCAA swimming and diving championships in the 100-yard butterfly. He will be seeded 29th for the championships to be held March 27-30 in Austin, Texas.

"I'm so happy for this guy," ECU coach Matthew Jabs said. "We talk about nothing given and everything earned. Through ups and downs, make no mistake he has earned this opportunity. I can't wait to get to Austin."

Santos, the Pirates’ and the AAC record-holder in the 100 butterfly, clocked in at 45.83 seconds on March 10 to punch his ticket to the NCAA championships. Santos also swam the 100 fly in 45.86 seconds in the preliminary round of the American's championships to best his conference record set in this event the previous year.
